However, Coolidge’s defense held up late and Colton Carter picked off the Yellowjackets fourth pass of the night and returned it back for the game’s final touchdown putting the nail in the Calvert come-back coffin. Calvert then mounted a comeback and brought the game to 20-19 early in the fourth quarter. Coolidge jumped out to an early 20-6 lead that held over till the second half. In still another game that pitted a top ten DI school verses a top ten DII school. Union Hill only defeated DII top ten team Oakwood last week 84-36 as their star player Keelon Caffey rushed for 435 yards, 6 TDs and threw for 114 more yards and five more TDs in the win. While Strawn’s schedule is unquestionably the hardest in class 1A, White Deer has a pretty tough one as well as they have played Borden County, Follett and next week highly ranked DI Union Hill Saturday in Bryson. Bucks quarterback Graysen Freeman led the charge going 5-7-1 for 191 yards throwing four touchdowns in the win. White Deer edged out Follett 52-32 in another showdown between top ranked teams in division one and two. Looking ahead I must say I am excited for the top 10 showdown between old rivals and district foes Garden City and Sterling City (6-0). In a year where Borden County appears beatable, Garden City has emerged as the clear favorite in the division one West.
Cesar Chavez recorded 20 tackles for Garden City to lead the Bearkats’ defense in this great defensive battle. The Bearkats defense was all over Strawn and the greyhounds just could never find answer for it as their high powered offense was held to just three touchdowns.
